Embrace the hard stuff.

by | Jul 25, 2023

Imagine facing these words – “stuck, bored, unmotivated, unfulfilled, uncertain, and fearful.” For many, they seem to find their way into our lives like unwelcome guests overstaying their welcome. Oddly, despite these feelings, you might still consider yourself content, but a part of you yearns for something that makes you feel more alive. The question that lingers is, “Where’s the hard hard stuff and what are the hidden joys in embracing them?”

Embrace the hard stuff by challenging misconceptions and embracing new perspectives.

Approaching fifty-three this August, I can’t help but reflect on the misconceptions I once held about this stage of life. I remember my parents being grandparents at my age, and the thought of them reinventing themselves or taking on new challenges seemed quite remote. In my mind, they had already left their mark – job well done! My siblings and I playfully dubbed them “Oxigobblers,” jokingly suggesting that their sole purpose was to consume oxygen.

But now, facing this next season of life, I cringe at how those unconscious thoughts once shaped my perspective. If I could turn back time, my message to them and to myself would be quite different. I’d encourage them to embrace the hard stuff and show them that oxygen is just a fraction of what they have within to excel – again and again and again.

Embrace the hard stuff for growth and resilience.

Age is inconsequential when it comes to taking on challenges and seeking new adventures. Embracing the hard stuff is the very essence of what makes success worthwhile. It’s like flexing a muscle – a reminder of our strength and resilience. The hard stuff isn’t just about moving forward; it’s about discovering the boundless potential that lies and is a catalyst for transformation. It shapes you, strengthens you, and infuses your journey with purpose and fulfilment.

Embracing the hard stuff can be scary. I once feared it and let limiting assumptions cloud my vision. I convinced myself that I was content, until I realised that contentment wasn’t what I truly sought. When I allowed myself to dig deep, I discovered that my values aligned with growth and affirmation. Embracing the hard stuff has paid off in full.

How to embrace the hard stuff in five simple steps:

Shift Your Mindset:

Start by shifting your mindset and reframing the way you view challenges. Instead of seeing them as obstacles, view them as opportunities for growth and learning. Embrace the idea that age is not a limitation, but an asset that comes with wisdom and experience.

Set Realistic Goals:

Break down the hard stuff into smaller, manageable goals. Setting achievable milestones will make the journey less daunting and allow you to celebrate your progress along the way.

Seek support and encouragment:

Don’t hesitate to reach out for support from friends, family, or a coach. Surround yourself with a positive and encouraging support system that believes in your capabilities and journey.

Be resilient:

Embracing the hard stuff might come with setbacks and challenges, but it’s essential to be resilient. Acknowledge and learn from failures, but never let them deter you from moving forward.

Celebrate your victories:

Celebrate every victory, no matter how small. Recognize and reward yourself for the hard work and effort you put into overcoming challenges. Celebrating your successes will keep you motivated and inspired to take on more hard stuff with confidence.

Unleash your potential and pursue new adventures.

Embracing the hard stuff not only allows you to unlock your untapped potential but also paves the way for exciting new adventures. When you past the barriers of comfort and familiarity, you discover hidden strengths and capabilities you never knew existed. Learning to embrace the hard stuff is empowering, enabling you to step into uncharted territory where growth and transformation await. Embracing the hard stuff becomes a treasure trove of possibilities.

Why settle for contentment when there’s a world of growth, achievement, and success waiting? Embrace the hard stuff, and you’ll find empowerment and joy in accomplishing what you once thought impossible.
